DIE-CUTTING ON THE FINISHED PRODUCT

There is no second chance for a first impression! With professional contour-die-cutting, you present your customers with flyers, brochures, and books that captivate from the very first moment. We specialize in contour cutting for flyers, folders, and brochures, as well as the die-cutting of contours in the covers of finished books.

With our machines, we process saddle-stitched, loop-stitched, and adhesive-bound products, even in multiple-up configurations. In addition to die-cutting arbitrary shapes such as Euro holes, logos, or outer contours, we also enable the separation of small-format brochures.

Has it ever happened to you? The folders are ready, and suddenly you realize: the business card slots are missing! You don't have to go through that anymore. There is a cost-effective and uncomplicated solution. Give us a call, and we'll find a remedy for your problem.

FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS ABOUT CONTOUR DIE-CUTTING

HOW DOES DIE-CUTTING WORK?

Using a suitable die, the individual product is stamped into the desired shape in a specialized die-cutting machine. Typically, the products are manually fed into the machine, although for large quantities, processing on special automated machines may be more economical.

WHAT SHOULD BE CONSIDERED IN DIE-CUTTING?

Die-cutting can reveal normal production variations from previous processing stages (printing, folding, stapling, gluing, etc.).

  • Avoid precise registration in the design, such as frames around the die-cut area.
  • Consider displacement for stapled products to prevent text or images from being partially stamped on individual pages during die-cutting.
  • Plan for sufficient "bleed" around the outer contour and use overfill when printing on a colored background.
  • Do not print outlines or die-cut contours.
  • In cases where fully or diagonally dark-printed pages face white areas, there is a risk of markings. In these instances, use printing varnish on all pages.

For die-cutting, the components of material, product thickness, and desired contour should be well-coordinated. Material and product thickness strongly influence the feasibility of desired shapes. Contours that can be achieved with pleasing results in products with few pages may not be possible in thicker products. The rule of thumb is: the thicker the product, the simpler the contour.
The spacing of staples in stapled brochures or the distance from the cut to the binding is also significant.
Ideally, contact us during the planning phase; we are happy to provide guidance.

Here are some preliminary considerations:

  • For contour brochures, we recommend low-volume paper.
  • Staples must be at least 10 mm away from the cutting edge.
  • For manual feeding, we require a minimum of 5 mm for head, foot, and front trim.
  • For machine die-cutting (large quantities), each trim should be 15 mm.
  • For double cut, we need a minimum of 20 mm margin.
  • When die-cutting into the covers of finished books, the cut must be at least 10 mm away from the binding.

WHICH PRODUCTS CAN BE DIE-CUT AFTER PRODUCTION?

Commonly die-cut products include:

  • Brochures
  • Covers of finished books
  • Flyers and folders
  • Leporellos
  • Prospects

WHAT IS THE COST OF A DIE?

The cost of a die depends on its size and complexity. In simple terms: the larger and more intricate the die, the higher the price.
